Long Beach has it all

If you live in Southern California, a great place to get away for the weekend is Long Beach. There's so much to do in the Long Beach area, whether you catch a shuttle over to Catalina Island, take a dinner cruise, visit the Aquarium of the Pacific, or spend the day shopping in downtown Long Beach, you'll never lack for things to do. Stay a couple nights in one of Long Beach's many fine hotels, take in an opera or symphony, or even a hockey game!

Well, comfortable beds, I suppose... this list of hotels in Milwaukee is sure to find something to please anyone. I'm thinking that one weekend in Milwaukee won't be enough, have to split it into two trips!

Heading to Pittsburgh

Next month my sister and I are heading to Pittsburgh for a "get away from responsibility" weekend, and I've been planning what we're going to do there. There are so many things to choose from, all these great museums and shopping districts - and I'm looking for the perfect day spa. It's a toss-up between Spa Uptown and The Red Door Day Spa and Salon. There are always lots of things on the Pittsburgh Events Calendar, so it's just a matter of choosing which show or festival we want to see. I know we're going to splurge and have dinner at Ruth's Chris one night, and I want to check out Cafe Allegro - anything voted best overall restaurant in the city 7 years in a row must be good, right? I think we're going to stay at the Springhill Suites, always a good choice. I'll let you know how our trip to Pittsburgh was next month!

Plan a retreat in Washington

Planning a getaway weekend for you and your sweetheart? I recommend The Villa in Tacoma, Washington, an absolutely lovely Italian Renaissance style villa; cozy up by the fire after a day spent shopping, touring the Theater District and antique row, visiting Tacoma's museums, or whatever you like to do. Or for a great place to do a retreat with friends, look into the Lodge near Mt. Rainier, they have cabins and lodges available for parties of 2 up to 25. Whether you want to climb Mt. Rainier or just admire it's beauty, the Lodge is a great place to stay.

Think about Columbia, South Carolina for your next family weekend getaway

Most of us like to get away for a weekend of relaxation and fun but don't have room in the budget for a huge expense. I found some great deals in Columbia, South Carolina - a one-night museum package or one-night zoo package is a great way to get out of town for the weekend, and won't break your bank. The Riverbanks Zoo & Garden is 170 acres of fantastic habitats and is a great place to walk around, enjoy the Columbia's fresh air, and have quality time with friends or family. The South Carolina State Museum is the largest in the state, and features art, science, and technology all in one venue. Either of these pre-planned weekend getaways are a great way to get the family together for the weekend, provide some fun activities, and are surprisingly affordable.
