If you are going here to eat good sushi, then I give this place two stars. It is not bad, just average and way overpriced. Go take a walk to Sushi Kai for much better sushi. Katsuya's "Happy Hour specials" are not really as good as their competition. Now, if your going here for the ambiance then I give this place 4 stars as it is located at the Americana, with a beautiful water show nearby. Then again, I would rather sit on the patio at the Cheesecake Factory and see the same thing.
Hadn't seen Becca J in a bit so we planned a dinner to catch up. Wandering in from the cold, this Katsuya took good care of us with more substance and none of the pretension of their Hollywood location. Our service was friendly, attentive, and efficient. Was I really in katsuya? That being said, we also lucked into arriving during happy hour so our 3 rolls and a warm saki were a very reasonable $30. The yellowtail roll was awesome bc the waitress kindly included the jalapenos I asked for and the shrimp tempura roll was also delish! Overall, I liked this place n would definitely come back.
My experience at the Izakaya by Katsuya in West Hollywood had an effect on my review for this location. This particular restaurant seems to be more mainstreamed and caters more to looks rather than quality of the food. At the other location, menu items are similar but created with more of an authenticity and are always changing. Here, it seems as though the popular items are made an advance because they have come out cold multiple times. For example, the Cream Rock Shrimp and the Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna. Furthermore, the prices are higher than at the other location I've listed. Suffice to say, this does get the job done but there are much, much better Sushi experiences to be had elsewhere.
Overpriced, overpriced, overpriced. I've dined here several times for both Dine LA and for a regular dinner. Their Dine LA lunch was advertised on the DineLA website for $22, but when I was there, the menu was $24. False advertising! I've gone here for DineLA for the past 3 or 4 DineLA events and their menu has always been the same....same appetizers (peppers which are GROSS, cucumbers, or edamame), same entree (beef, chicken, or salmon teriyaki with sushi rolls), and same dessert (mochi with fruit). NOT worth the $24.
Edamame should be free (other resaurants serve edamame for free). Pickled cucumbers are just that. Plain and cheap. And what are those peppers? They're just peppers sauteed with soy sauce. Nasty!
Entree is plain...just teriyaki meat on top of smeared wasabi mashed potatoes and grilled tomatoes and cucumbers. The "chef's selection of rolls" was just plain ole spicy tuna or california roll and it was only 4 pieces. Cheap!
Desert is cheap. It's just one piece of mochi ice cream with a little fruit.
I also had their non-alcoholic raspberry special drink. But wasn't worth $7. Didn't even have alcohol and the glass was so small!
The only praise I have is the ambiance and decor. Very chic, modern, hip. But I always hate using their restrooms. I always find myself rushing because that geisha girl in the mirror always scares the $hit out of me.
The food here is alirght. I like the spicy tuna with crispy rice, rock shrimp tempura roll with the sauce on the side. Always too much sauce on those things. Well, I've always thought the Americana being in Glendale was random, so this restaurant is also random. I will come back for their happy hour when the rolls are cheaper ($5).
i don't know where the rest of these people went, because katsuya GD is AMAZING! delicious food, great service, not too crowded. Check out the grilled yellowtail collar! yum
Katsuya in Studio City is truly one of my favorite places to grab sushi. This Glendale Katsuya is a sad representation of the brand. The service is absolutely horrible. Waited about 20 minutes for a beverage and the place was empty. The ambiance is just ok, which is a shock for a location inside the Americano. The dishes are not as tastey as the Studio City and Encino location but double the price. They changed my favorite dish, (spicy tuna with rock shrimp) and not for the better. I will never go back.
Katsuya is more of a high class sushi restaurant. The food is fairly expensive and will NOT satisfy your hunger.
Do not come to Katsuya if you are you suddenly craving some california rolls. This place will drain your money quicker than most any other sushi restaurants. Sure. The food is good, but it's definitely not worth the cash you're putting out. You can find sushi of nearly the same caliber at many other sushi restaurants at a much cheaper price.
Through my experience, I found that the sushi rolls are rolled to perfection! I liked the texture and quality. If you're big on appeal and taste and don't mind blowing money I recommend you come try Katsuya at least once.
Slightly above average food for crazy, insane prices. It's up to you.
This restaurant may be "high class" but be warned, most of the food is only for show. All the food here is too overpriced and not even worth it, from the taste to the small portions they serve you. The sushi and sashimi here do not have the best quality and freshness. Some of them taste rather dry and bland.
I agree with the majority of people here, this restaurant deserves only 2 stars from me. I would rather go to Little Tokyo for much cheaper and not to mention, much better Japanese food and sushi.
The food here is very good. It is not as busy as the Bentwood and Hollywood location. I love the Creamy rock Shrimp Tempura, Crispy rice with Spicy Tuna, Grilled yellowtail collar, and Miso Black Cod. It also feels not as fancy as the other two locations. The only real complent was it was a bit nosy. I was there in the late evening. But you see more studio people here.
